Web23 Jan 2024 · Lymphedema — a common condition that stems from a damaged lymphatic system — leads to swelling in one or more parts of the body. It typically affects the legs and arms. Although lymphedema can be hereditary, it is common among patients with cancer who undergo lymph node-removing surgery. WebLymphoedema is the name given to the swelling that occurs because of a damaged or blocked lymphatic system. Protein, water and waste products are released into tissue in the normal way but a damaged lymphatic system prevents the drainage away and swelling of the affected area results (lymphostasis). In addition, the limb may become inflamed.
