WebI don't know if this applies to the jeep Cherokee (I doubt it honestly), but I know in a lot of cases where the name is making reference to a specific indigenous group, rather than just being like "the natives", the team or company has a closer and more thought out relationship with the group whose name they're using, which makes it less irritating to people.
